‘End-of-Life Battery Separator Films Reborn as High-Performance Apparel’

Battery separator films produced by SK Innovation’s materials subsidiary, SK Innovation Etec (SKIET), are being transformed into high-quality clothing. This is thanks to startup Light Route, which developed a recycled textile material for apparel called Texnic using discarded separator films.

In an interview with Seoul Economic Daily on the 28th, Light Route CEO Shin Min-jung said,

"Previously, secondary battery separator films were only recycled as designated waste bags, but we have developed a technology to transform them into apparel materials. This material, with its excellent waterproof and windproof functionalities, has garnered attention and won the ‘2022 CES Innovation Award’."
